ARCs Director & Lead Medical Instructor
James is a credentialed Paramedic, Tactical Paramedic, Firefighter, and Instructor. A US Army Infantry (Paratrooper) Veteran he has nearly three decades of experience between the military, high-threat security (PSD), as well as remote, expedition, and 'street' medical operations. In his roles he has taught and cared for countless humans of various cultures and their canine partners in austere environments around the world. His work brought him to over 19 countries, including 4+ years in Afghanistan, 2+ in Iraq, another several in west and central Africa, as well as Europe, Mexico, Korea, and throughout North America.
A lifelong learner, he has earned multiple advanced degrees with high honors, including a bachelor's in emergency & disaster management and a master's in business administration/leadership. He started his official instructing career over 25 years ago teaching self-defense, strength & conditioning, safety/security, and medical subject matter. James is credentialed through the NAEMT, AHA, Red Cross, USCCA, and works as a Paramedic Instructor. When he’s not teaching you can find him in the woods, working around the homestead, or at a historical event living in the 1700’s while reenacting with Rogers Rangers or the 1st NH Regiment. He now wishes to share his skills, knowledge, and experience with you and your team to help you to be ARC-READY.

Lead Outdoor Skills & Bushcraft Instructor, Outdoor Guide
Rick Swain retired from the Army after over two decades of experience as a Special Operations (Ranger) Combat Medic and Paramedic/HAZMAT Technician. After retiring from the military, Rick continued his service for over a decade as a government consultant, offering mentorship, training, and evaluation for units within the National Guard's Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Response Enterprise. His operational experience spans diverse environments including deserts, mountains, and jungles in locations such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Panama, and Ecuador.
Rick's deep passion for wilderness preparedness has been cultivated over 30 years allowing him to distill invaluable life-sustaining lessons that have proved instrumental in real-life scenarios. As the founder and owner of The SCROLL LLC, Rick shares his extensive expertise in critical readiness skills for the outdoors, as well as life-sustaining lessons. His qualifications include being a Registered Outdoor Guide, holding a Bachelor of Arts in Homeland Security, completing specialized military courses such as U.S. Army Ranger School and USASOC SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape), and obtaining certifications from Jack Mountain Bushcraft School exemplify his commitment to excellence and preparedness. Rick's deployments with the 75th Ranger Regiment and his involvement in the review committee for the Tactical Ranger Medic Handbook underscore the depth of his practical knowledge and leadership within high-stakes environments.
